Deep Creek

Deep Creek runs through the rural townships of Lancefield and Newham in the upper section and Romsey and Bulla in the lower section. 

The upper section of the creek often ceases to flow in summer and aquatic life is reliant on the remaining deep pool habitats. Important populations of platypus, Yarra Pygmy Perch, Mountain Galaxias and Spotted Galaxias, which have special conservation value, inhabit its upper reaches. There is significant intact native vegetation in the lower section of the creek.

Deep Creek is a source of irrigation water for agriculture and the upper section is also a proclaimed Water Supply Catchment.

Risks to the health of the Creek include:

• erosion
• stock access; and
• weeds
