Lerderderg River

Little River

This area includes the Lerderderg River and Goodmans Creek, which start in the Wombat State Forest and travel through forested and agricultural land and Bacchus March before joining the Werribee River. The Lerderderg is an important environmental asset and is one of two Victorian Heritage Rivers. The Lerderderg is in good condition and supports a range of aquatic life, including six species of fish. Key risks to river health include:

  • changes in natural flow
  • barriers to fish migration
  • poor quality streamside zone; and
  • erosion

Tributaries of Lerderderg River:

  • Goodmans Creek

Melbourne Water has developed the Index of River Condition (IRC) program to provide an overall integrated measure of the environmental condition of rivers. To find out more about the health of these rivers and creeks visit Melbourne Water’s website or request Healthy Waterways Waterwatch data.
