Laverton Creek

Laverton Creek begins in a semi rural area and passes through urban and industrial areas before it flows into Port Phillip Bay at Altona. The creek passes through the Truganina swamp, which is of state significance because of the presence of the threatened Altona Skipper Butterfly. Key risks for this creek include:
- poor water quality,
- litter; and
- poor quality streamside vegetation
Poor water quality also poses a risk to the health of Port Phillip Bay.
Melbourne Water has developed the Index of River Condition (IRC) program to provide an overall integrated measure of the environmental condition of rivers. To find out more about the health of these rivers and creeks visit Melbourne Water’s website or request Healthy Waterways Waterwatch data.
