Healthy Waterways Waterwatch Education Program
Melbourne Water has developed a river health focussed curriculum for VELS levels 1 to 6. The curriculum framework identifies the most appropriate topics to cover at each level. As well as a Healthy Waterways Waterwatch delivered session, topic units for teachers include; a session summary, pre and post activities and a rich task for assessment. The units are student centred, encourage deep levels of thinking and include a local community element.
Activities are delivered as a program of sessions to build student’s knowledge of waterways, animals and habitats, pollution types and their own impacts on the environment.
We’re able to work with you to help formulate the best possible program or experience for your students. Our aim is that effective education programs lead to a well-informed environmentally aware and engaged community.
The Healthy Waterways Waterwatch school program is funded through our agreements with local government and is provided free of charge.
