Safety
Zero Harm means no one will suffer any mental or physical harm through the work we do.
It's an aspiration and mindset we're continuously working towards. It's about being proactive and considering safety in everything we do, and constantly challenging existing practices in search of a safer way.
Waterwatch Monitor Safety
Your health and safety is very important to us.
Melbourne Water values the data you collect as a Healthy Waterways Waterwatch volunteer, and we want you to consider your safety as you undertake this important task.
Please download the factsheet (PDF, 34kb) and consider the checklist (PDF, 66kb) every time you plan a trip to your waterway or undertake monitoring tasks.
Melbourne Water can make available to Healthy Waterways Waterwatch volunteers safety training courses that it provides to its employees including: Take 4 (risk evaluation and mitigation) and Manual Handling Training. This training is provided free of charge, please contact your Coordinator to register your interest.
We would encourage you to report all hazards and safety concerns that you encounter when undertaking monitoring to your coordinator, so that your experiences can be shared with other volunteers and our checklists can be refined to make them as usable and relevant as possible.
