Water Week Idol 2009

Healthy Waterways Waterwatch and City West Water partnered once again on Wednesday 21st October for Water Week Idol 2009, a special event to celebrate National Water Week.

Water Week Idol welcomed primary school students across Melbourne to join in a day of singing and performing ‘water-themed’ songs in front of their friends, family, teachers and peers. The red carpet was rolled out for a dynamic and inspirational performance by Indigenous Hip Hop Projects and Special Guest Judge Ashleigh Brewer (‘Kate Ramsay’ from Neighbours).

Melbourne Water’s Manager of Community Learning, Kate Kearns, said Water Week Idol was an opportunity for students to explore water topics in a fun and creative way.

“By composing and performing songs about water, the students are not only increasing their knowledge and understanding, but helping spread the messages of river health and water conservation”.

Puddlehush Animation

Students from Kingsville Primary School worked with the Healthy Waterways Waterwatch Program as part of the ‘Puddlehush’ DVD project, coordinated by the Living Museum of the West.

Students learned about what lives in and around Stony Creek in Yarraville with Healthy Waterways Waterwatch and how they were affected by the urban environment.

Students then used this knowledge of the creek to make an animation about the creek.
