Waterwatch in Schools: Options for Teacher Training

Option 1

A twenty minute presentation, followed by a short hands-on Waterwatch activity to explain what Waterwatch does and how schools can be involved.

Option 2

Waterwatch can attend school's curriculum planning meetings and provide ideas to teachers about how they can include Waterwatch in their current units of work or design a Waterwatch unit.

Option 3

For schools undertaking regular Waterwatch monitoring,  Waterwatch Melbourne can train teachers to use Waterwatch monitoring equipment, make a monitoring site selection, interpret the monitoring data and provide hints for classroom control techniques for working with students in the field undertaking Waterwatch activities.

Option 4

Schools can organise a training event on a specific topic such as Environmental Flows and the 'Run of the River’ board game. For more topics, see the list of lesson plans.

Option 5

Teachers can learn and improve water quality monitoring skills and how to identify macroinvertebrates by attending a ‘Waterwatch Advanced Training Event’.  For more information, see calendar of events.

Please note:  When a training session is requested by a school they are required to organise a minimum of 5 teachers to attend the session.

For more information on teacher training or to arrange a training session, contact your local Waterwatch Melbourne Coordinator.
