Waterwatch provides stimulating activities that encourage the community to become involved in monitoring the health of our rivers and creeks.

 

About Waterwatch Melbourne

Waterwatch Melbourne, including the Port Phillip and Westernport catchments, is part of the Waterwatch Victoria and the national Waterwatch Australia networks. It is one of nine Waterwatch programs operating in Victoria.

The Waterwatch Melbourne region covers an area of 12,000 square kilometres, includes 3.6 million people and 8,400 kilometres of waterways, all of which flow into Port Phillip or Westernport Bays.

On average, Waterwatch Melbourne works with over 53,000 participants, conducts over 2,000 activities and monitors over 400 sites each year.

Waterwatch Melbourne is made up of five regional programs:

  1. East
  2. North East Melbourne
  3. Merri & Moonee Ponds
  4. Maribyrnong
  5. Werribee Plains

Three of these programs are hosted by Melbourne Water, while the Merri and Moonee Ponds Waterwatch is hosted by the Merri Creek Management Committee and the North East Melbourne Waterwatch is hosted by Banyule City Council.

The Waterwatch Melbourne program is sponsored by Melbourne Water, the Department of Sustainability and Environment, the Federal Governments 'Caring for Country' initiative and local government in the Port Phillip and Westernport catchment area.
